Children experience a variety of exciting subjects giving them the opportunity to explore, investigate and enhance their own learning.

Important Information

PE 

PE will take place every Tuesday and Friday in Year 2. We use two main curriculums 'Beyond the Physical' and 'iMoves'. Children will be taught not only by their class teacher but also by trained Sports Coaches throughout the school year.










 Reading books

Children will bring home a new reading book every Friday.

One will be one of the class '50 Must Reads'. These are books specifically chosen for children to read. Children will have their own Reading Passports and certificates will be awarded for reading 10, 25 and 50 reading books.

Children will also read on a daily basis through planned Guided Reading sessions.

Some children will also read on a regularly throughout the week on an individual basis.

Homework

Phonics and Maths homework will be posted on Class Dojo every Friday. Homework is designed to consolidate the learning the children have been taught in class throughout the week.

 Maths

White Rose Maths Hub - This half term we will be continuing some work on Money, which we started in Autumn 2. We will then be moving onto Multiplication and Division, with a focus on 2s, 5s and 10s.

Children will continue to be taught how to articulate themselves in relation to problem solving and reasoning whilst ensuring their maths fluency continues to develop.

Science

This half term our topic is titled 'Living Things and Their Habitats'.  We will be covering work around a range of different habitats, micro-habitats, deforestation and more! 

History

This half term we are learning all about 'What a Wonderful World - Africa'.

Through this topic we will be learning all about Nelson Mandela and what he achieved throughout his life. We will learn all about the Apartheid and why democracy and the process of voting is so important to society.

 Art

In Art, we are focusing on experimenting with different media, mark-making and drawings from observations.

PSHE

In PSHE, we use the My Happy Mind curriculum. This half term we will be focusing on the unit 'Appreciate'. Children will follow a series of lessons and activities, whilst filling in their My Happy Mind Journals along the way.

RE

This half term, we will be focusing on 'Which books and stories are important?'. Children will be looking at a range of religious books throughout the topic.

Guided Reading 

In Guided Reading, we will be focusing on the book 'Flat Stanley'. Children will be completing a range of questions based on our book, using the VIPERS Framework.

First Story - Lila and the Secret of Rain by David Conway & Jude Daly.
