Physical Education (PE)

Intent:

At Brambles, we believe all children should have access to a high-quality Physical Education (PE) curriculum and PE should be an integral part of the whole school curriculum. We recognise and value the vital contribution that Physical Education makes to a child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development and to their mental health and well-being.

Our PE curriculum aims to provide every child with learning opportunities that enable them to reach their physical, social and emotional potential and achieve their personal best. Our aim for the children is for them to become physically confident and to achieve the fundamental movement skills needed to be successful in a broad range of sports and physical activities. We want our children to build a firm knowledge of how exercise and activity affect the body and the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle now and for their future. Children will be taught how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values.

Through our Physical Education curriculum, children will express themselves physically, challenge themselves and others, cooperate, compete and take risks. They will develop resilience, empathy, confidence, determination and social skills – all vital for good mental health and wellbeing and hugely important in developing the ‘whole-child’.

It is important to us that our children enjoy PE and the physical activities on offer. We aim to inspire children right from the start and continue to build on this throughout their time with us and develop a life-long passion for being physically active.

As a school, we have invested in Beyond The Physical, a scheme of work that we felt matched our vision and the needs of our children.
